“I see that it is by no means useless to travel, if a man wants to see something new.”
― Jules Verne, Around the World in Eighty Days

About Me

Clare Haggerty, aka Philomena Fogg

It's hard to know what to say about yourself in a format like this, but I'll do my best.

I'm a 30-year-old wannabe world traveler, and so far I've been fortunate enough to explore 45 countries of the many, many more I'd like to visit (Feel free to visit my "Where I've Been" page to see exactly where). I grew up in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania called Dunmore, on the border of Scranton (What!? The Electric City!), but I'm currently living and working a summer job in Los Angeles, California. I love to travel and try new things, especially unique foods. As much as I wish I was one of those people who can just get on a plane and fly by the seat of their pants, I am a planner to a tee when it comes to traveling. I regularly house long, detailed itineraries for imagined trips in my iPhone notes of the amazing places and sights I want to see someday.

I started this blog on a different website and with a different title back in 2015 to chronicle my time living and teaching and traveling from a small town in Castilla la Mancha, Spain. The purpose of this blog now is to chronicle my adventures (and misadventures) as I try to see as much of this great big beautiful world as possible.

Speaking of names, I love a stupid joke arguably more than the next guy, and the name of this blog was inspired by Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days. The main character's name is Phileas Fogg, and his attempt to see the world gave me an idea for the name of this blog—and so, Philomena Fogg was born.
